Helmet Design for Ayrton Senna Anniversary

Created to mark the anniversary of Ayrton Senna’s passing, this special design draws inspiration from Senninha - the beloved character he co-created to share his passion with younger generations. A vibrant, nostalgic celebration of joy, speed, and enduring legacy.

We meticulously recreated vectors of the graphics from two Senninha t-shirts worn by the triple-World Champion at Imola in 1994.

Helmet Design for Ewan Thomas

Designed for British driver Ewan Thomas, this Bell RS7 Pro helmet is a bold and patriotic statement built around a stylised Union Jack motif. The layout is driven by powerful red and white striping, set against a deep navy base that subtly incorporates a repeating “ET” monogram pattern for added texture and personal identity.

Precision-balanced and unmistakably British - this design reflects both Ewan’s roots and his aggressive approach on track.

Helmet Design for James Cottingham

James wanted an upgrade to his existing design for his 2024 Bell HP7 Evo-III, keeping his traditional purple and green colours, but changing the green to a stunning metallic Verde Medio, and including a nod to McLaren with a touch of papaya orange. The design also features ghosts of the circuits that James will be tackling in the United Autosports McLaren 720S GT3 Evo during his 2024 WEC season. There are two helmets of this design that James will be using in 2024 - one with purple lining and one with green lining!

Helmet Design for Louis Birkett

Created for Mini Challenge racer Louis Birkett, this vibrant, high-impact design brings together a bold mix of primary colours and abstract geometry to create a look that’s instantly recognisable on track. With sweeping curves in deep navy, vibrant red, and golden yellow, the design is broken up by a striking maze-like motif applied in red over yellow - adding visual complexity and motion.

The layout wraps around the helmet in continuous flow, with sponsor placement integrated seamlessly into the overall aesthetic. A matte finish enhances the aggressive look, while Birkett’s name and Union Jack tie it all together with a strong personal signature.

Helmet Design for Mark Priddy

This Sebastian Vettel-inpsired design features the chrome chill dichroic foil as used on the 4-time World Champion's 2009 helmet which changes colour with the lighting. The matte dark grey based Arai GP-7 also includes a custom-designed by Spindrift pin-up girl that Mark has used on many of his previous helmets which we changed slightly for this edition, and the feathers also featured in his racing identity.

Helmet Design for Sam Hancock

We worked with historic racer, Sam Hancock, on this design for his Schuberth SP1 for the 2024 racing season. Sam wanted to change his design for 2024 but still wanted to retain his usual colours and a distinctive, classic look. We decided on using a fluorescent red which really pops against the white, reminiscent of the Marlboro McLarens of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Looking forward to seeing this hit the streets of Monaco in a few weeks!

Helmet Design for Daniel Adomaitis

For Daniel Adomaitis’ 2025 season, we delivered a completely fresh look on the Arai CK-6 chassis, blending high-impact visuals with sharp, professional detailing. The design features a dynamic interplay of silver chrome and blue chrome elements, balanced by aggressive use of fluorescent yellow to maximise trackside visibility.

The layout introduces stronger geometric symmetry compared to his 2024 helmet, with refined line work and layered colour blocking to enhance contrast under varying light conditions. Carefully placed negative space allows the chromes to breathe, while subtle dark accents anchor the overall composition.

Helmet Design for Daniel Adomaitis

Kart racer, Daniel Adomaitis, wanted a helmet design for the 2024 season that featured the colours of his kart and race suit, whilst servicing prominent logo placement for his valued sponsors on his Arai CK-6.

Helmet Design for Harvey Stanley

Harvey wanted a development of his existing design with a fade from yellow to orange from bottom to top, initially inspired by Mika Hakkinen’s iconic design for his Bell GT5 Carbon. We kept the dark metallic blue and white and made the mosaic effect a bit more prominent, and changed up the stripes to make it a bit more cool. Also, we added Harvey’s family tartan around the halo in Jackie Stewart fashion, as well as the ‘I Love Norks’ punch label on the back to show Harvey's sense of humour!

Helmet Design for Nick Padmore

For 2022, multiple Historic F1 Champion, Nick Padmore, wanted to freshen-up his existing helmet design but keeping his family's traditional green and blue colours. We also kept his trademark teardrops on the top, albeit changing them up slightly for his Arai GP-7 SRC ABP.

Helmet Design for Nick Padmore by Spindrift

Helmet Design for Matthew Sturmer

Created for historic single-seater racer Matthew Sturmer, this bold design on a Bell RS& Carbon pays tribute to the iconic helmet of Gilles Villeneuve - reimagined with a modern edge. The core layout echoes Villeneuve’s distinctive 'arrowhead' pattern, here executed in high-contrast navy and off-red/orange from Villeneuve's later helmets, giving it an aggressive, clean-lined identity on track.

Designed with simplicity and heritage in mind, the sharp geometric symmetry emphasises the helmet’s form and carbon structure, while subtle sponsor detailing and a gloss finish retain a purposeful, motorsport-focused aesthetic.

Helmet Design for Matthew Sturmer by Spindrift

Helmet Design for Justin Turner

For this helmet design on his Bell RS7 Pro, Justin wanted something unique but still distinctive and, being a Fernando Alonso supporter, wanted to incorprate some unusual angles and shapes!

Helmet Design for Mark Priddy

A truly '90s-inspired design but on a contemporary Arai GP-7! This design was created when Mark was about 8 years old. He gave us the basic design and we worked with him to add the splat effect on the back and the classic Schumacher cheque effect in black and silver on the top. The all-gloss design features the striking Marlboro DayGlo red as used on the '90s McLarens.

Helmet Design for Aaron Scott by Spindrift

Aaron came to us asking for an update of his existing helmet design for his Stilo ST5. Although Aaron has changed his design over the years, he's always kept the 'A' on the side and feathers on top, reminiscent of motorcycle rider, Scott Russell and former F1 driver, JJ Lehto. The helmet also features the yellow, red and green in memory of Aaron's close friend and Formula Ford racing legend, Neil Cunningham. In addition, we added the handprints of Aaron's 3 children on the back which was a cool touch!

FAQs: Custom Motorsport Helmet Design

Designing a helmet should be exciting - not overwhelming! Whether you're starting with a clear vision or a completely blank slate, we've answered some of the most common questions below to help you understand how our helmet design process works. From concept to colour codes, we’re here to make the journey as smooth, fun, exciting and collaborative as possible.

What makes a good motorsport helmet design?

A good racing helmet design balances personal identity, visibility, and sponsor placement. At Spindrift, we craft bespoke concepts that reflect your personality, ensure recognition on track, and meet technical and visual standards for professional motorsport.

Can you create helmet designs for any racing discipline?

Yes, absolutely! We design helmets for all motorsport categories, including karting, GT, touring cars, single-seaters (F4, F3, F2, F1), rally, and historic racing. Each design is tailored to suit your level of competition and branding needs.

How much does a custom helmet design cost?

Prices vary depending on the complexity of the design and whether you want full design-to-paint service. Contact us for a bespoke quote based on your requirements.

What do I receive once the helmet design is complete?

You’ll receive a full set of detailed visuals showing all elevations of your new helmet design - including both sides, front, rear and top views. These include precise colour references and Pantone codes to ensure accuracy during painting.

We also supply your chosen helmet painter with scalable vector files, allowing them to create accurate stencils and paint masks for elements such as logos, names, murals and other intricate graphics.

Do you also paint the helmets?

While we don’t paint in-house, we work closely with trusted helmet painters such as Rich-Art Concepts. We manage the full process - from design to delivery - so you get a complete, professional finish without the hassle.

Can you match an existing design or replicate a historic helmet?

Yes - we can recreate or adapt existing helmet designs, whether it’s your own previous design, a tribute to a motorsport legend, or a historic colour scheme. We’ll work with you to ensure accuracy while adding any modern updates or personal touches you’d like.

I already know exactly what I want - can you create a visual of my helmet design?

Absolutely. If you have a clear concept in mind, we can take your ideas and turn them into a professional, paint-ready visual. You'll receive a complete set of design elevations showing the front, sides, rear and top of your helmet, with accurate colours and placement - ideal for approval and handoff to your chosen painter.

I have no idea what I want - can you help me come up with a design?

Absolutely. Many of our clients come to us with a blank slate, and that’s where we thrive. We’ll guide you through a creative process to understand your personality, racing background, colours you like, and any themes or inspirations. From there, we’ll develop a unique, tailored helmet design that feels like yours — even if you didn’t know what you were looking for at the start.

Can you redesign an existing helmet?

Absolutely. We can update, refine or completely overhaul an existing concept to better reflect your current brand or sponsor requirements - while keeping any elements you want to preserve.

What file formats do you provide for the final design?

Final helmet designs are delivered as high-resolution visual renders and vector files ready for professional paint application. We can also supply presentation visuals for sponsors and social media use.

How long does the helmet design process take?

On average, the full design process takes 1–3 weeks depending on complexity and revisions. We also offer express options if you’re working to a tight race schedule.

Can I use my helmet design on suits, social media and merch?

Yes. We can adapt your helmet graphics into a wider visual identity - perfect for racewear, social media branding, merchandise, and sponsorship decks.
