Rob Bell Rounds Off Championship-Winning Season with Awards Events

19 December, 2016

McLaren GT factory driver and leading British sportscar racer, Rob Bell, has rounded off his championship winning season with a flurry of awards events and trophy presentations honouring his achievements.

The SRO Awards Night of Champions kicked off a week of black tie, glittering evenings for Rob. This end of season evening was held at the iconic Tower of London in London and was attended by drivers and teams from all championships organised and promoted by the SRO Motorsport Group.

Rob and his Garage 59 teammate in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup Come Ledogar, were presented with Champion trophies for the Endurance Cup (the third driver, Shane Van Gisbergen was not able to attend due to racing commitments), an outstanding achievement by the trio who drove the McLaren 650S GT3 to victory in this prestigious sportscar championship.

Rob also took time out of his diary to attend a Make A Wish Foundation charity auction event at the Aquascutum flagship store on Great Marlborough Street, Central London. In attendance were Tottenham Hotspur players (Aquascutum is the official Formalwear partner for the football team) Christian Eriksen, Ben Davies, Heung-Min Son and Pau Lopez. Tottenham Hotspur legends Ledley King, Ossie Ardiles and Micky Hazard also attended, alongside Rob and fellow McLaren GT drivers, Alex Fontana and Andrew Watson.

The annual Autosport Awards, the industry’s most prestigious event in the motor racing calendar, was the next stop for Rob, where he joined his McLaren GT colleagues at the Grosvenor House Hotel. The McLaren 650S GT3 was a nominee for the Racing of the Year Award, but was pipped to the finish line by the all-conquering Mercedes W07 F1 car.

The British Racing Drivers Club Annual Awards the following day was a chance for Rob to catch up with fellow Brits racing at home and abroad. A delighted Rob was presented with the ERA Club Trophy, awarded to the British driver, who, driving a British car, established the most meritorious performance of the year outside the U.K. Rob is in equally prestigious company as this award winner, joining Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Guy Smith and Darren Turner among others on the trophy plaque.

Rob said of his year, “It’s been a very busy year, which has been very competitive, particularly in the Blancpain Endurance Cup which came right down to the wire and really was a last lap, nail-biting finish that saw Garage 59, myself, Come and Shane take the title. I’ve really enjoyed this season with McLaren GT and I’ll be looking to continue in my winning way next year.”

He adds, “The last few weeks have been busy with the traditional end of season gatherings and I’ve added to my trophy collection. The ERA Club Trophy is a particularly special one, as it was a real surprise to me and an honour to receive this from my peers in the industry.”
