Matt Bell will compete in the 2018 Michelin Le Mans Cup after a strong debut season in 2017. The British driver will again team up with amateur racer, Jim McGuire, in a United Autosports Ligier LMP3 car for the six-event series.
“The Michelin Le Mans Cup is a cracking series,” said Bell. “It has good, healthy grids and it’s a great support for the European Le Mans Series. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Pro-Am pairings to compete at a high level in preparation for a bigger series or just to enjoy the series in its own right. The jewel in the crown is the racing we do as a support to the Le Mans 24 Hours. What a great opportunity to go and race at Le Mans!”
The Pro-Am pairing of Bell and McGuire made good progress throughout 2017 and they hope to continue their upward momentum when the season starts at Le Castellet in France on April 14th.
“Every circuit was new to Jim last year so it was very much a learning season,” said Bell. “The car was new to him too but we got stuck in and topped the season off with a podium finish at the final round in Portugal. Jim then raced in the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi and made some massive gains so if he repeats that performance in the Le Mans Cup I think we will be in contention for podiums at every round. We’re feeling quietly confident so our goal this year is to take it race by race but also to aim high.”
This will be Bell’s eighth season with United Autosports, a team that is growing in performance and stature by the month.
“It’s great to be sticking with United Autosports,” said Bell. “This looks like being the team’s biggest year so far, starting with running Fernando Alonso at Daytona. I hope we can do our bit to fly the flag!”
