Following on from the news that Matt Bell will race in the 2018 Michelin Le Mans Cup, it was announced today that the British racer will also compete in the 2018 European Le Mans Series (ELMS).
Driving a United Autosports Ligier LMP3 car, Bell will contest the series alongside team mates Tony Wells and Canadian Garett Grist.
“I’m very excited to be stepping up from the UK series with Tony as he did a great job last year,” said Bell. “We had a lot of success as a pairing in the British series so, together with Garett, we’re looking forward to stepping up a gear.
“The sole focus for us in 2018 in the ELMS LMP3 title,” he continued. “We’re not in it to make up the numbers, we want to win the championship, and I think that between us we have the pace to get the job done.”
The pressure will be on from the outset but Bell is looking forward to what he expects to be a very enjoyable season.
“I’m looking forward to welcoming Garett to the team,” he said. “He comes with very good credentials from his racing in the U.S. and he’s also a fellow Petit Le Mans class winner. I think he’s going to fit in well and add to the speed of our crew.”
As he is racing in both the Michelin Le Mans Cup (MLMC) and the European Le Mans Series, Bell will be kept very busy on all of the weekends when MLMC races on the Saturday and ELMS races on the Sunday.
“Double duty is definitely going to keep me on my toes this year,” said Bell. “But I cannot wait to get stuck in!”
