Aston Martin yesterday revealed that British racing driver Matt Bell had been selected for the new Aston Martin Racing Evolution Academy.
Matt is one of 10 drivers who will receive the support of the Academy in 2015 in the form of a multi-faceted training programme. At the end of the season, one of the 10 will be offered an Aston Martin Racing works team contract.
"When looking at the applications we took a lot into consideration," explained Aston Martin Racing Customer Programme Manager Andrew Williamson. "We looked at what racing ability, professionalism and dedication they have shown so far and then we tried to assess what potential they have.”
Matt will race an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the 2015 British GT Championship, making the switch from the Audi he has raced in recent years.
“It was always very frustrating racing against the Aston Martins as they have a lot more power than the Audi so I’m very happy to be behind the wheel of one this year!” said Matt. “The power and torque from the V12 engine is very impressive but I was also surprised at the level of aero the car has and how balanced it is to drive, which makes it a car you feel comfortable to push right to the limit.”
The new British GT season gets underway this Easter weekend at Oulton Park.
