Walker Ready to Take On Brands GP

29 September, 2011

Oldham's Alex Walker will be looking to build on his impressive Formula Renault UK debut at Rockingham earlier this month, as the championship heads for Rounds 17 and 18 Brands Hatch GP, Kent this weekend.

The 16-year-old, who became vice-champion in the InterSteps Championship at Croft last weekend, is gearing up to make his second appearance in the Certina Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship which takes place on the Grand Prix circuit.

Walker's first outing in the championship, at Rockingham nearly two weeks ago, saw him put in a solid performance to finish P6 in Race 1, but he is well aware that he has new challenges ahead of him this weekend.

Alex Walker:
"I'm really looking forward to be racing in Formula Renault again and I hope to take the things I've learnt from Rockingham a step further. We had good pace there and I've since been working closely with the guys at Fortec so I think we can build on that at Brands.

"The GP layout is a new track for me and it's known for how tough it is so I'll be making the most of my time in the car and will also use the time to work on other areas I know I can improve on. Formula Renault is where I want to be next year so this is great opportunity to help me develop as a driver but I'm of course looking for a good result too."

The second of Walker's races, which is scheduled to start at 3.35pm on Sunday, will be broadcast on ITV4's live coverage of the meeting between 11.30am and 6pm, and will take up its residency in support of the British Touring Car Championship.
