McLaren GT works driver, Rob Bell, will make a return to Baku this weekend, driving a McLaren MP4-12C GT3 alongside Kevin Estre for Boutsen Ginion Racing. The duo will race in the final round of the Blancpain Sprint Series, the BAKU WORLD CHALLENGE.
Rob raced in the event last year, with two podium finishes, in the race weekend which takes place on a temporary street circuit in the Azerbaijan city. With a grid of 30 top GT cars from the world’s fastest sportscar racing series, expectations will be high for a competitive outing with this experienced sportscar team.
Rob says, “I’m delighted to be going back to Baku as it is such a great event. Joining the Boutsen Ginion Racing team for my return and partnering with Kevin Estre should give me a good shot at being back on the podium again, and there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be on the top step this time.
“It was an amazing event last year,” adds Rob. “The city came alive and the race was the focus for track parades, demonstration runs and a great carnival atmosphere. But the serious business of racing is central to the event and I’m sure we’ll have two very strong races on the city streets.”
The weekend begins on Friday 31st October with an evening city parade. Two practice sessions and qualifying take place on Saturday 1st November. The first, one-hour race is on Sunday morning, 2nd November and the main race, another one-hour timed event, is in the afternoon.
