BRDC Rising Star Glynn Geddie will be going all out to ensure the 2010 British GT Championship crown is awarded to Trackspeed co-driver David Ashburn, at the penultimate meeting of the championship to be held at Brands Hatch this weekend.
Apex Tubulars-backed Geddie, who has only competed in seven of the ten rounds so far this season, sits 3rd in the championship on 51 points, just behind the MTECH Ferrari pairing of Matt Griffin and Duncan Cameron, who share 2nd spot with 57 points. Ashburn heads the table twenty points clear and could come away from the Kent circuit as champion this weekend should he and Geddie score a point or more over their championship rivals.
With the Trackspeed pair having won the two rounds at Rockingham, and two-hour at Silverstone, earlier in the season, Geddie and Ashburn came to the last meeting at Snetterton with 75kg of success ballast on their Porsche 997 GT3R. Struggling with straightline speed, their efforts were reflected by only 4th and 9th places, which allowed MTECH to score a win and keep in contention for the championship.
Now with the Trackspeed Porsche carrying only 45kg extra weight for this weekend's double-header, held on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, Geddie and Ashburn are in good shape to return to their race-winning pace and deal the final blow to MTECH's campaign.
"This weekend is vital for the championship and I'll be doing all I can to make sure David becomes champion. Hopefully in the process I will move up to 2nd in the standings - we just need everything to run as smoothly as possible as I'm sure MTECH aren't planning on making it easy for us.
"At Snetterton we were at such a disadvantage with the weight but, now with 30kg less, we are in a strong position to hit hard and settle the championship with two wins."
