Matt Bell returns to ‘best circuit in the world’ to race for Bathurst 12 Hour glory.
Since making his Bathurst 12 Hour debut last year, Matt Bell has been itching to return to Australia to race again at Mount Panorama. It was announced today that he will re-join the Bentley Boys to race for Bathurst 12 Hours glory next month.
Bell will race alongside Guy Smith and Steven Kane in a Bentley Continental GT3 and he and his team-mates are focused on one target: to win Bathurst.
“We went to Bathurst to win last time and we almost achieved it,” said Bell. “When push came to shove (which it did quite literally) we couldn’t defend against the Nissan GT-R on the straights and we got clobbered by an Aston Martin at the last corner. Now we have the bit between our teeth to get back out there and take the win.”
Mount Panorama is not a circuit for the faint-hearted. It is a proper Aussie race track that separates the men from the boys.
“Last time was my first time at Bathurst and I knew from the simulator that I was going to love the circuit,” explained Bell. “What I didn’t know was how much I was going to love it. The combination of super fast and super tricky makes for an exhilarating lap. At the top of the mountain you have these fourth and fifth gear corners, between walls so there is no margin for error. When you get to grips with that you will do probably the most rewarding lap of your life.”
Bell was delighted to be invited back to Bathurst by Bentley and happy to have the opportunity to take on the mountain again.
“Bathurst is a great way to kick off the new season of racing,” he said. “It’s an honour to be selected by Bentley again as it is a real privilege to drive for them. Bentley Team M-Sport is an incredible group of people and I hope I can do them all proud.”
The 2016 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hours takes place on 7th February at Mount Panorama in Bathurst, Australia.
