Aberdeen's Glynn Geddie and co-driver David Ashburn enjoyed a perfect race to win today's two-hour Avon Tyres British GT Championship race at Silverstone.
In qualifying Geddie struggled with traffic on his runs and was unable to hook up a lap before the rain set in, forcing their Trackspeed entry to start the race from 10th on the grid. The new sister Trackspeed car got the best of the dry running and managed to snatch pole for team mates Philip Walker and Richard Westbrook.
Ashburn started and kept the Porsche 997 GT3R on the pace throughout his stint before handing the car over to Apex Tubulars-backed Geddie for the second half of the race. He was able to push the car and had a textbook stint, climbing his way through the field to lead the race.
With the car and tyres in good health Geddie kept the lead, despite coming under pressure from the Rosso Verde Ferrari of Hector Lester and Allan Simonsen in the later stages, taking the chequered flag less than 3 seconds apart.
"The race pretty much went perfectly for us and we had no major dramas so it's great to take the win. In qualifying we really struggled and the added success ballast didn't do us any favours, so 10th was all we could manage before the track got wet.
"The race couldn't have gone more to plan and David did a good job in his stint. When I got in the car I was thinking P3 or P4 would be a good result, then my engineer got on the radio and told me to push as we had the pace to win. Then it was pretty straightforward and we had clean passes to get into the lead, so from there I was able to look after the car to the end.
"Trackspeed have done an outstanding job this weekend and we have all been working very hard, so it's a great to see it pay off and claim maximum points."
Ashburn still leads the championship and has 72 points to his name with Geddie now tied on 46 points with the MTECH Ferrari pairing of Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin to lie in 2nd place, despite having only competed in five of the eight rounds..
Geddie will return to Silverstone for the next instalment of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB next weekend.
