Geddie & Ashburn Seek Twilight Success
Monday 11th October 2010
Glynn Geddie and co-driver David Ashburn head to Donington Park this weekend for the 13th and final round of the 2010 British GT Championship.
Last time out at Brands Hatch GP the duo scored a win and fifth place in their Trackspeed Porsche 997 GT3R which was more than enough to secure Ashburn the title. Now with a big tick next to that on the job list the main objective for this weekend is to fend off any challenges from the MTECH Ferrari pairing of Matt Griffin and Duncan Cameron in order to safeguard Geddie's 2nd in the championship.
Apex Tubulars-backed Geddie from Aberdeen, who only entered the championship at Knockhill after two races had passed, has two points over Griffin and Cameron in the drivers' standings but will be seeking his and Ashburn's fifth win of the season at the Derbyshire track this weekend.
Starting at 3.30pm and concluding at dusk, the two hour endurance will be the series' first ever 'twilight' race and will throw in the excitement of mid-race refuelling along with the driver changes, making an unpredictable and tense finale to the season.
"Really we just need to make sure we are in front of MTECH and out-point them but it would of course be fantastic to end the season with a win if we can.
"With the race lasting two hours it's not about putting in hot lap after hot lap - consistency and strategy will be the deciding factors, so we will have to pay more attention to looking after things like brakes and tyres. We won the last two-hour at Silverstone and, although there was less ballast on the car at that point in the season, we are hoping we will be strong - it all depends on how the extra weight affects us.
"Having a race that falls into fading light is a mega way to end the season so I'm really looking forward to it and hope we can bring home the result we need."
