Sargeant Goes So Close in European Championship in Adria
Wednesday 8th June 2016
Logan Sargeant produced another fine display at the weekend that left him so close to taking the win in the 2nd round of the CIK European Championship.
Mixed conditions all weekend played a massive part in the final results of all the races at the Adria Circuit, Italy.
In dry conditions Sargeant dominated test sessions and also qualifying for the race. Sargeant took pole position on Saturday morning but the young American driver had mechanical problems in heat one where he finished in 9th position. In heat 2 he took a win that meant he would start in 2nd position for the pre final.
In the pre final all the drivers started on slicks but a downpour during the race meant the race became tricky for everyone. Logan fought strongly throughout the race and finally came home in 3rd position.
In the final, after another rain shower before the race all the drivers started the race on wet tyres. Logan took the lead and gained a healthy advantage before the track dried out considerably and saw his rivals close the gap. With half a lap to go in the race Logan still held the top spot but with 3 corners to go his rivals finally managed a way past.
More chaos was to follow as the entire top 3 collided with Spaniard Pedro Hiltbrand lucky enough to find a way past all the first 3 drivers as they tripped over themselves. Logan was able to come home second behind the Spaniard.
The result moves the 2015 Junior World Champion into 2nd place in the championship with two rounds remaining.
