Donington Park, UK - 8 April 2014: Matt Bell heads into the first round of the 2014 British GT Championship next week with an exciting new partner on board. Aldermore, which provides financial services to homeowners, savers and British businesses alike, is backing Matt’s British GT Championship campaign after meeting the ambitious racer back in 2012.
The United Autosports Audi R8 LMS ultra that Matt shares with Mark Patterson will bear the Aldermore branding throughout the 2014 season. This was revealed for the first time at today’s British GT Media Day at Donington Park. With just days to go before Round One the teams are all out on track making final preparations for the season ahead but Matt took time out to meet guests from Aldermore who have travelled to Donington to get a taster of the on-track GT action.
Rob Lankey, Managing Director of Commercial Mortgages at Aldermore said: “Aldermore are delighted to be supporting Matt at this exciting time in his career. Being a British driver at the forefront of the British GT Championship Matt is a great ambassador for Aldermore, a homegrown bank dedicated to helping UK consumers and businesses with their finances. Supporting ambitious and talented people like Matt is what we’re all about.”
“Britain has a fantastic reputation for motorsport talent and motorsport innovation across the world,” Lankey continued, “Aldermore is proud to be innovative and at the cutting edge of the change in British banking. We see British GT as a fast growing sport and this partnership allows us to introduce the sport to our 136,000 customers and show them just what the British motorsport industry is achieving.”
Matt has a great record in the British GT Championship, winning during every season since his first in 2011. With his regular team-mate Mark Patterson he won the final round at Donington in 2013 so he is hoping to continue that winning streak into the next race at Oulton Park.
“We had a very strong end to the season last year and I'm confident that with the addition support from Aldermore we can keep that form going at Oulton Park,” said Matt. “Mark is into his second season with me so he knows all the British circuits now and we have both performed well in pre-season testing. It’s always hard to judge your competition before the first race but we know it will be tough as British GT seems to get more competitive every year. Mark and I will just focus on maximising our own performance and we proved last year that a podium is always on the cards. We will be battling for the top step from the word ‘go’ this season.”
“This is an important season for me,” continued Matt. “I want to show that I can win championships so it is great to go into the year with the backing of such a great partner in Aldermore. My racing career actually started during the same year as Aldermore (2009) and our successes have grown since then so it would be great if we could keep that momentum going and succeed together.”
Round One of the 2014 British GT Championship takes place at Oulton Park during the Easter weekend. Both one-hour races take place on Easter Monday.
