Matt Bell’s Blancpain Endurance Series challenge gets started this weekend at Monza in Italy. The ‘Blancpain’ series sees the best GT3 cars from marques such as Aston Martin, BMW, Audi, Nissan, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren and Mercedes fight it out over three-hour endurance races at the start of the season before taking on the Spa 24 Hours and then the Nürburgring 1000kms.
Racing the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3, Matt will lead the Pro-Am assault for British team, JRM Racing, alongside his team-mates Charles Bateman and Humaid Al Masaood.
“I've had two test sessions in the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 so far,” said Matt. “I've really enjoyed driving the car. The lap times have been very promising and we are continuing to improve the car with every outing. It's always a good feeling to be quick but still know there's more to come.”
“I’m excited to be racing in Blancpain again,” he continued. “It has grown very quickly into one of Europe's top racing series. Big grids are always impressive but the quality of the competition is what makes this series so competitive, and therefore one if the best places to make your name as a professional now.”
After retiring from his last race at Monza with a mechanical failure Matt is hoping for a good finish this weekend at a track that should produce some thrilling racing.
“Monza is a great track to race at,” he explained. “With long straights and big braking zones there are lots of opportunities for overtaking, making it exciting to watch. Unfortunately last year we didn't finish but the Nissan GT-R has shown great promise on the reliability front so I don't expect a repeat!”
Qualifying for Sunday’s three hour race takes place on Sunday morning at 10:35hrs CET and the race will get the green light at 14:15hrs CET.
