Strong Pace for Geddie & Brown at Silverstone
Sunday 5th June 2011
BRDC Rising Star Glynn Geddie and co-driver Dan Brown remain positive after their home FIA GT3 European meeting at Silverstone this weekend. The pair showed promising pace in their Apex Tubulars and STP-backed AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia throughout the weekend and, although they were forced to retire in Race 1 with mechanical issues, they were not far off a podium and finished in P4 in Race 2.
Brown took the opening stint in Race 1, having qualified in P6, and was running strongly in 5th position when he handed the car over to Aberdeen's Geddie after 25 minutes. After a perfect pitstop by the AF Corse crew, Geddie jumped in ready to take the remainder of the race, but an unexpected failure with the car's starter motor left him unable to get the engine started again, and the team were unfortunately forced to retire their entry.
In Race 2, Geddie qualified in P7 and quickly got up to 5th as the race got underway. However, the top three cars were able to break away as Geddie got stuck behind the slower car in front but held position as he came in to hand the car over to Brown.
Brown was also caught up in traffic in his stint but managed to snatch P4, bringing home the pair's best finish of the season so far.
"We're pretty frustrated that we had the problem with the starter motor in Race 1. Before I got in the car I could hear the commentators saying that they thought we were on for the win as a couple of the cars in front of us were scheduled take penalties. I'm pretty sure we could have taken the win, or at least finished on the podium, so it was unfortunate that we were dealt such a blow.
"I think we can be satisfied with P4 though and our consistently strong pace all weekend has been very encouraging, so we will keep pushing and hopefully bring home a podium at Navarra."
The FIA GT3 European Championship now moves to Navarra, Spain for Rounds 5 and 6 in four weeks time. However, Geddie will now focus his immediate attention on the next instalment of the British GT Championship which takes place at Brands Hatch on 19th June.
