Scottish race ace Glynn Geddie clinched the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am 1 title in dominant style at the season finale at Brands Hatch today by winning both of the weekend's races, held on the full GP circuit, after a hard-fought, season-long battle.
After qualifying on Pro-Am 1 pole by four outright places over main title rival, Robert Lawson, and then winning the double-header, the Team Parker Racing pedaller completed the season in 1st place by 15 points - despite coming into the weekend 1 point in debt to Lawson.
In Race 1, Geddie cruised the Apex Tubulars-backed car to a lights-to-flag victory and maintained a superb P3 overall throughout the race, along the way having a dig at James Sutton for P2 into Hawthorns after the race's second safety car period. Lawson however, struggled to match Geddie's pace all weekend and managed to cross the line 3rd in class and 8th overall behind team mate Derek Pierce. Although the result handed Aberdeen's Geddie the championship lead, mathematically Lawson could have still taken the crown at this stage.
Geddie had another solid outing in Race 2 to run, once again, in the Pro-Am 1 lead and enjoyed a battle with Team Parker Racing team mate, Tom Bradshaw, in the early stages while pulling away from Lawson who was immediately behind. Geddie got in front of Bradshaw, using him as a cushion to Lawson, and pulled away, earning the Scot his 10th win of the season - and an impressive 50% win record in this highly-competitive championship.
The race was brought to a slightly premature end on lap 14 though, when Tony Gilham and Pierce made contact at Hawthorns, bringing out the red flags three laps before the chequered flag was due to drop.
"I'm ecstatic to be champion - this is a great moment and feeling! It's been a really up and down season, but we got there and the end result is well deserved by everyone involved.
"It hasn't been easy and we knew the the championship would come right down to the wire, but we had the edge in the second half of the season for sure. It was important that we left our stamp on this year though and sent out a message to our rivals to look out for us next season.
"The team have done a faultless job all weekend and the car felt great, so a huge thank you to everyone at Team Parker Racing, Apex Tubulars, Bishopston Enterprises, Motorwerks Performance Centre, A R Beattie, and everyone else who has shown their invaluable support throughout the season - we did it!"
Geddie is set to compete in one-off races before the '09 racing season completely comes to a close, which will be announced shortly.
