Rob Bell Joins SRT Motorsports for Major US Endurance Events
Saturday 4th January 2014
McLaren GT factory driver, Rob Bell has confirmed that he will be competing in the blue-riband US endurance races in 2014. He will join the factory two-car team SRT Motorsports this coming season, driving one of the team’s Viper GTS-R sportscars.
Rob, currently at Daytona for the pre-Rolex 24 test sessions, joins a strong driver line-up for the team, with his team mates including Ryan Hunter-Reay, Jonathan Bomarito, Dominik Farnbacher, Marc Goossens and Kuno Wittmer. Rob will be joining drivers Jonathan Bomarito and Kuno Wittmer in the No. 93 SRT Viper GTS-R.
Bell will contest three rounds of the IMSA TUDOR United SportsCar Championship in 2014, the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans and has prior experience of all the events, although he has not competed in a Viper GTS-R.
“After seeing the steady progress the SRT Motorsports team has made, I can’t wait to get behind the wheel at Daytona and compete against some of the best GT class teams in the world,” Rob said. “Being the new kid on the block that is joining a team as it continues to grow and get better with every race, I’m confident it won’t take long to feel right at home.”
“I enjoy racing in the USA and these three events along with Le Mans 24 Hour race and Spa 24 Hours, are the cream of the endurance races on the international calendar, so it’s great to know I’ll be competing in the US ones this year. I’ve had a second place class finish at Daytona, in 2011, so my first goal will be to go one better and move up to the top step this year, with SRT Motorsports.
SRT Motorsports has partnered with Riley Technologies on the design-and-build of the SRT Viper GTS-R race cars. Two identical SRT Viper GTS-Rs will compete in the production-based GT Le Mans (GTLM) class in the new TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. The SRT Viper GTS-Rs will be competing against the Aston Martin Vantage, BMW Z4 GTE, Corvette C7.R, Ferrari F458 Italia, and Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.
Following the pre-Rolex 24 test at Daytona this weekend, Rob will return to the States for his first competitive outing of 2014 when he competes in the race on the weekend of 25-26 January.
