Geddie Does the Double at Snetterton
Sunday 2nd August 2009
Scottish racing driver Glynn Geddie gave his season the best boost possible after flawless drives in Rounds 11 and 12 of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Snetterton today, which saw him notch up two wins in the Pro-Am 1 category.
After qualifying his Apex Tubulars-backed Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car on Pro-Am 1 pole, and 5th overall, on Saturday for both of today's races, the Aberdeen race ace avoided an early collision in Race 1 to chase a lead quartet made up of Pro competitors Tim Harvey, James Sutton, Team Parker Racing team mate Tim Bridgman, and Michael Caine. Twenty-four laps and a superb drive later Geddie took the chequered flag and secured maximum points, and fifth overall.
Sunday afternoon's Race 2 generated a similar result but Geddie had Pro-Am 1 rival Tony Gilham breathing down his neck in the early stages of the race. However, five laps from the end, while sitting comfortably in fifth overall, Caine and Sutton made contact at The Esses in front of Geddie, who took full advantage to secure fourth overall and gain another Pro-Am 1 win.
Geddie, who was awarded 'Driver of the Weekend', is now in hot pursuit of the Pro-Am 1 lead and has closed the gap on leader Robert Lawson from 39 points to just 18.
"This is exactly what was needed to get our season back on the right path. I was trying to get an overall podium in Race 2 and I'm sure it will come but I'm more than happy with the Pro-Am 1 win. The car felt great throughout the weekend so hopefully this will open a new chapter for the second half of the season."
The next Porsche Carrera Cup GB race takes place at Knockhill, Geddie's home circuit, in Fife in two weeks time.
